Updated blog features: Navigation banner for both PC and mobile versions!

News from 2019.05.07

Hey all!
I did another update on this blog archive site.

This time, it's the navigation banner on top!

I didn't realize this function existed on Blogger. And it works fine both on desktop and mobile versions! So not only the PC users but also people visiting my site on their smartphones will have much easier overview and quicker access to different pages and categories. That is really practical!

I should have done this waaaay before...

But anyways, now I did!

On PC it looks like this...
Navigation banner on top of the site page. Make use of this for much easier SonicJPNews life!

and on mobile, like this.
Tap the blue banner which says 'Home'...

And you'll find this drop-down list of tabs.

Tap on 'PC ver.' to switch to desktop version which has more fun gadgets, such as World Map, Random Post, Popular Posts and Sonic Sounds Player!

Alright! So what do you think of it?

Now it's much easier to navigate to major topics of this blog without scrolling down the labels section on the right or searching for keywords in that little searchbox above it. Nice!

I also put link to the desktop version of this site as the first button! So mobile users don't need to go all the way down to the bottom of the page to find 'switch to web version' link.

PC version has much more contents than mobile version, so please check it out too by choosing 'PC ver.' from the dropdown list!

Announcing New Archive Blog & Update

News from 2019.03.16
Archived on 2019.03.17

It's almost been 2 weeks since I moved my archive blog to here.
At the same time, my Twitter follower count reached 2,222 and over (a cool number!).

To celebrate this, I announced this new archive blog on my Twitter page as follows.

In addition to what's written in Tweets above, I added some more gadgets to make this blog an even more fun place to be.

  • World Map - ClustrMaps

Placed on top right of the blog.
A gadget that shows from which place on the earth people have seen this archive blog.

I love its transparent design with simple blue colored planes which fit my blog's navy color.
The constant rotation makes it look like a miniature decoration, it's really cool just to gaze at.

It reminds me of the world map of Sonic World Adventure (Sonic Unleashed), my absolute favorite  out of all Sonic series games, and hence the gadget name. Really happy to have found it.

You can also stop the rotation when you hover your cursor over the earth. Check how many other people from your place are gathering here!
It makes me happy to know that people around the world are visiting my blog.

  • Sound of Sonic - Spotify Players

Placed at the very bottom of the page.

Collection of top music from Sonic series by each composer + songs from Sonic related artists.
Check them out & if you like the samples, go fetch your Spotify software/browser and listen to complete versions there!

Currently on blog:

  1. SEGA Sound Team (Mixture of all kinds of Sonic songs and BGMs by various composers)
  2. Crush 40
  3. Tomoya Ohtani
  4. Junichi Kanemaru
  5. Hideki Naganuma

More will be added in near future! I am planning to make a special article for each composers too.

Introduction to SonicJPNews archive blog

Hi there! This is an archive site for @SonicJPNews on Twitter .
A Sonic fan and Japanese native speaker @Knuttunk55 shares Japanese Sonic news with the community that is global. May not be the fastest, but correct!

Blog posts here will contain links to original tweets, my translated tweets and sometimes my opinions on the topic for easier overview of each Sonic news.

I will combine tweets which are closely related to each other in one post, and use the time they were actually tweeted for my post.
(Good lord I can change publish date of blog posts on Blogger to even past; this is the second reason I switched from Tumblr. The first is: I can embed tweets! Kinda late on to realize these, but better than never.)

Comments and discussions are welcome.

Also check here for archive of every tweets and retweets with corresponding date & time in chronological order: https://twilog.org/sonicjpnews

SonicJPNews joined Twitter on 2017.03.21
Archiving on Blogger started on 2019.03.05 (moved from on Tumblr website)

Enjoy!

First Tweets by SonicJPNews

News from 2017.03.22
Archived on 2019.03.05

These were the very first tweets I made with the brand new account. The set-off!

As new pieces of information on upcoming Sonic games were anticipated, I was very motivated and wanted to start translating stuff right away.

But before that, I had to set my own tweeting style so people can recognize my tweets easily.

Initially, I intended to mark my tweets as follows, thinking that the round blue ball next to 三 (kanji for the number three, which should resemble speeding lines) would look like Sonic doing spin dash. And the red ball for the finito.

As you can see in tweets from a month later following these, I noticed that many people didn't seem to read the whole thread. I realized that the symbols might not be visible from some people's phones; or I wasn't posting fast enough. IAs I had to switch my keyboard between Japanese and English, it also became more and more bothering to type these sybmols in when I was very busy or tired and still had to do translations. (Back then I was less lazy and translated tweets immediately as I found them - and that for EVERY tweet that seemed somehow relevant, even when they were more of daily comments and diaries of Sonic Team members)

All that overwork was taking too much time away from me, so I changed my tweeting style to a less frequent one. I don't translate everything if they seem very straightforward or when I don't have enough time and passion for. I hope you understand.

Also, I'm pretty sure that the blue spin-dashing Sonic at the beginning of my tweets is enough to see who is writing at one glance. Right? :)

Short History of SonicJPNews

2017.03.20 - now

The following tweets were the starting point of SonicJPNews.

It was that moment when saw somebody showing their disapprovement over a google-translation of a Japanese tweet fom Shun Nakamura-san, the producer of Sonic Forces, who had been giving out hints and sneak-peeks of the upcoming game.

It went like this: the person understood the tweet as the game's next trailer comes in fall, which would be almost half a year from that day.
In the original tweet, however, it was stated that the game's FINAL trailer would come somewhere in autumn. Not the next one.

Some people reacted negatively to the mistranslated information, which I did not see as a good sign.  If their misunderstanding remains, it would do no good for both fans and developers.

When I was talking about this small incident on how a small translation error could lead to huge gap in information, and how I could make a Twitter account dedicated for Sonic with translations of Japanese tweets into English to avoid such trouble, a friend on Twitter, Menno, encounraged me to realize the idea - so I did!

I decided on the name for the new account rather quickly. I wanted to make it simple and easy to remember.
The name SonicJPNews is a combination of three words: Sonic (obvious, yeah), JPN (= Japan) and News.
You can call it however you want, but I personally read it as 'Sonic J-P-news'.
Actually I'm curious how you read it - Sonic Japan News? Japanews would sound funny, too.

Then I drew this little Sonic icon inspired by 'Sonic the Sketchhog' of the official Sonic website. This little smiling Sonic has been my buddy ever since.

Anyway, I hope to be a help of those who want to catch up with Japanese news which are Sonic and SEGA related.
Enjoy!
