Nintendo Dreams conducted an interview with each team of Team Sonic Racing!

The full article can be found on their vol. 302 issued this month, but they are also releasing a part of these interviews online!

Each interview-part will be released on Nintendo Dreams Web (NDW) from April 23rd onwards every Tuesday towards the game release on May 21st.

And I will translate all of them and collect them here on my archive blog!

"[Special Project] 'Team Sonic Racing' Direct interview with racers! #5: Team Eggman"


Sonic series' first team car racing game 'Team Sonic Racing'. The interaction between characters is also a charm point of this game. So we interviewed the racers directly!

Team Sonic Racing has a unique rule of competing in a team of three and aiming for the memberes' total best rank.
Since cooperation between team members is the key, the race is very lively with racers talking to each other during the match! Additionally, characters who recently had less chance to show up are joining the race too, and they show what they are capable of in 'Adventure Mode', in which they will challenge Grand Prix Race held by the mysterious host 'Dodon-Pa'.

SS1: Sonic "Let's go check it out! Don't worry, even if anything happens, it's going to be fine for us!"
SS2: Dodon-Pa "Welcome to 'Wisp Circuit', the first stage of 'Grand Prix Race'!"


And this time, we conducted a "direct" Q&As with the characters who are going to challenge the Grand Prix Race as racers!
We are going to deliver this interview for each team in 5 separated articles every Tuesday.

For those of you who are huge fans of Sonic and his gang, and also for those who are not yet very familiar with them - please get to know their charm with this interview!

By the way, this is a project linked with Nintendo Dreams June 2019 issue (vol. 302).
There are questions and answers that can only be found on the paper magazine, so don't miss them!


Guests for the interview #5 are... Dr. Eggman from 'Team Eggman'! Additionally, his assistant duo Cubot & Orbot (non-racers) are here too!

Dr. Eggman (Technique Type)
A selfish and self-centered, self-proclaimed evil genius. It is true that he is an excellent scientist, but his plans to turn the world into his 'Eggmanland' are constantly thwarted by Sonic and his friends - but he never gives up.
He joins the race with the motto: Defeat Sonic!

Orbot & Cubot
Assistant robots made by Dr. Eggman and a duo of round Orbot and square Cubot. Orbot is a hardworker, but he sometimes upsets Dr. Eggman with his cutting sarcasm. Cubot is an easygoing slow-thinker, who makes Dr. Eggman anfry with his unnecessary comments.

These two won't appear in the interview this time, but Zavok and Metal Sonic are also in Team Eggman to defeat Sonic and his friends!

Zavok (Power Type)
The leader of 'Deadly Six' who fought with Sonic. He has high combat ability and sharp minds. He joins Dr. Eggman and seems to be planning something to defeat Sonic at last.

Metal Sonic (Speed Type)
A highly functional fighting robot made by Dr. Eggman to countervail Sonic. His speed and power are no less than the original. it looks like he is joining the race after Dr. Eggman's order.


Q: What do you think of the unique rule of 'team racing' this time?
Eggman: Hmph! To defeat Sonic, the power of me alone is more than enough, but that sly old man's condition to join the race was to make a team of three... But in my Eggman Army, I have many strongest racers! I will first bring my Egg Pawns for a test and bring those cheeky brats down a peg or two! Ho-ho-ho-ho!
Orbot: But boss, why are the Egg Pawns your teammates? There are many other mechas who loook stronger!
Cubot: Yeah boss! We are definitely much better racers than Egg Pawns, don't you think?
Eggman: Idiots! You two don't have 'legs' to step on the pedals!

SS: Dr. Eggman joins the Grand Prix race at last by leading his Egg Pawns. Who would have thought that the reason behind it is 'they have legs'!


Q: What do you like about your own machine?
Eggman: Thank you for asking! Sonic and co are riding on those powerless machines that sly old man prepared, but my team are fit with the best state-of-the-art machines I, the genius of the century Dr. Eggman developed! Look! This powerful and stable body line, the cockpit focused on functionality... literary the strongest machine! Nya-ha-ha-ha!
Orbot: Excellent, boss! Your great machine is on another level than Dodon-Pa's!
Cubot: Really~? To me, it looks like the usual Egg Mobile with tires attatched.
Eggman: Hm? Cubot, Did you say something?

SS: Racing car similar to the racer Metal Sonic's looks. This was also possible because of Eggman work!?

Q: Out of the items you can use in-race, which one is your favorite?
Eggman: Actually I don't need any help from those Wisps, but in this racing I'm not allowed to bring my own weapons, so I have no other choice than to use them. The one I use the most is Yellow Wisp's 'Drill'. The moment you take out other racers while you are using it is simply refreshing!
Orbot: Yellow Wisp's 'Drill' appears often when one is in a lower rank, and it's a very powerful item to come forward at once, right, boss?
Cubot: Ah~ That's why boss is always driving in the back?
Eggman: Urrgh, shut up! You two always say too much! Just keep your mouths shut!

 SS: You transform into Drill and drives automatically at high speed. It also wrecks your rivals!

 Q: Which one is your favorite course?
Eggman: Favorite course? Don't ask such silly question! There is no way I have a course I like in the ones that sly old man prepared without asking! That old man even transformed my waste disposal 'Frozen Junkyard' into a course with no permission... *angry* One day, I will invite those annoying racers to the special hellish course I make!
Orbot! Cubot! You are proceeding with the preparation of racing course, aren't you!
Orbot: What!? A racing course? I haven't heard of it until now...?
Cubot: Now that you are old, aren't you starting to become forgetful, boss~? *laugh*
Eggman: Shut up! You two are the ones being forgetful! Continue with the preparation immediately!

Q: Are there any racer or a team you consider them to be your rival?
Eggman: Rivals? Ga-ha-ha-ha! Do you think I, the genius of the century Dr. Eggman has any rival? Ridiculous! The high-performance racing machines I developed are faster than any machines that old man prepared! No one in this race can outrun my team! Ho-ho-ho-ho!
Orbot: But boss, after the race from earlier, you were saying 'Next time, I will defeat that blue hedgehog for sure!'
Cubot: You were also telling Egg Pawns to 'Be careful of Team Sonic and Team Dark', right~?
Eggman: D, don't be silly! It was just... an acting to fool the enemies!

Q: Please tell us your passion for racing!
Eggman: Orbot and Cubot were saying something unnecessary, but I stress out that my Eggman Army don't know any defeat! No matter who the opponent is, even Sonic, I am going to grab the victory! Also... I have another purpose than becoming the champion. Muhahaha...Ho-ho-ho-ho!
Cubot: Boss looks even more energetic than usual~
Orbot: Of course, he was always losing against that fast Sonic, but this time he can't use his legs to runn. For boss, this is his perfect chance to play fairly against Sonic! Let's cheer our boss!
Orbot & Cubot: Boss~! Do your best~!


As a last note,
This "Team Sonic Racing", in which Sonic and his friends get on their racing cars to challenge dynamic racing in a team of three, will have various courses which are made brand-new or inspired from past works' stages, must-not-miss BGMs for the series' fans, customization to make the one-and-only machine, etc., etc. ...

This attractive game for every Sonic fan and car racing fan is finally coming out on May 21st!

What do you think of it?

The interaction between Dr. Eggman and his robots Orbot and Cubot always have this funny dynamic. I really wonder why Eggman made them such personalities... Maybe he was feeling a little lonely being alone with disobeying rough robots like Metal Sonic and Omega...

It was surprising for me that Eggman doesn't seem to be connected to Dodon-Pa at this moment. I wonder how Dodon-Pa got all the information about Sonic and his friends' abilities and stuff... and found Eggman's base... We'll find out soon when we play the Adventure Mode!

The game was released today on all platforms! Let's play Team Sonic Racing now!
